Infrastructure, Government & Healthcare
The construction industry is at a fascinating stage. The white paper Embracing Change? Global Construction Survey 2008, presents the views of chief executive officers and senior executives of some of the world’s leading contractors.
The boom in both infrastructure and private projects around the world is creating strong demand; at the same time contractors have to cope with a severe lack of qualified project managers, skilled tradesmen and rapid cost inflation. And with green issues very much to the forefront, construction has to meet increasingly tough environmental standards.

With this in mind, we examined the four key areas impacting the industry: resource shortages; risk management; escalating costs and sustainability. Some of the issues raised in the survey have the potential to restrict the growth and development of both individual construction companies and the industry as a whole. The results — which have been supplemented by some KPMG specialist comment — should make compelling reading for anyone involved in the industry.
