Much change in the industry means that financial institutions should now be considering how their fundamental strategic priorities should be pursued in the new, post-crisis environment. With the influence of the East rising, new opportunities are opening in investment, real estate and new products strategies and innovation. In the West, the pressure is being felt through regulatory changes, a developing framework for a new capital regime, and the call for recovery and resolution plans to be developed for banks and insurers. As the industry moves into recovery from the economic recession, finding ways to optimize cash remains a priority.
